Scleral Contact Lenses
Scleral Lenses
Scleral contact lenses are a special type of lens that are custom fit for your unique eyes with a rigid material and an extra-large diameter. These lenses vault overtop of the cornea and rest on the sclera (the white part of the eye). Scleral lenses have excellent optics, are larger in diameter than other contact lenses, are made of durable and breathable materials, and provide a lubricating cushion making them very comfortable to wear.
Although most people can be fit into a scleral contact lens, these lenses are especially beneficial for certain conditions and patients. If you have keratoconus, an irregular cornea or corneal scarring, high astigmatism, or dry eyes you may benefit from wearing scleral contact lenses.
At Optique, we will assess your candidacy for scleral lenses, fit trial lenses into your eyes in the office, teach you how to insert, remove and care for your lenses, and finalize your scleral lens prescription to optimize both comfort and vision.
